How does ebay sniper work?

i know basically what it is, but if i enter my max bid, does it automatically enter my max bid or the lowest possible bid? cuz im buying goggles and i have a max bid a lot higher than what the price is now, i dont want to pay my max bid if i dont have to.

you enter a max bid and it watches an item for you and if someone else bids it automatically enters the next highest bid so it makes it virtually impossible for you to lose (unless it goes over your max bid). it also bids for you at the last possible second of the auction

i dont understand...how is that any different than putting in your maximum bid and letting it go for you? it automatically puts in the lowest bid that still beats the other bids...how is the sniper different?

Ebay sniper bids at the very last possible second, that way its pretty much impossible for someone else to win and you get the item at a fairly low price.
